Machinedrum

Master volume pot

The Master volume potentiometer sets the level of the Main outputs and the Headphone output.

Track LED's

These 16 LED's represent the Machinedrum tracks. They flash when sounds are triggered. They also show the currently selected track.

Sound selection wheel

Select the active track using the Sound selection wheel.

Classic/Extended button

This button switches between the two modes of Machinedrum operation, Classic and Extended.

Function button

The Function button, in combination with other buttons, accesses secondary functions and menus. These functions and menus are written on the Machinedrum panel in white text within a brown rectangle.

Bank buttons

The Bank buttons are used for selecting patterns. Here is also where the Mute, Accent, Swing and Slide menus are located.

Trig buttons

The 16 Trig buttons are mainly used for sequencing and triggering sounds.

Scale setup button

The Scale setup button is used for setting the length and time signature of a pattern.

Kit button

The Kit button accesses the menu where a kit can be assembled, saved and loaded. Here is also where the settings for the Master effects are found. The secondary function opens up the Song menu.

Pattern/Song button

Press the Pattern/Song button to alternate between the Pattern and Song modes. The Global settings can be accessed here as well.

Start/Stop/Play buttons

These are the transport controls. Record, stop and play/pause. Secondary functions are copy, clear and paste.

Arrow + Yes/No buttons

Use the arrow buttons to navigate in menus. Confirm selections with the Yes button and exit menus with the No button.

Tempo button

Press the Tempo button to access the menu where the BPM is set. The Tempo LED flashes in sync with the chosen BPM. The Machinedrum can be locked to an external tempo as well

Level encoder

The endless rotary Level encoder is used for setting the volume of the tracks.

Data entry encoders

These endless rotary encoders are used for adjusting parameter values.

Synthesis/Effects/Routing button

This buttons flicks between the three parameter pages of each track. The secondary function gives access to the LFO menu.

LCD screen

A lot of handy information is displayed on the gorgeous red LCD.

Headphone out

The Headphone is a stereo jack mirror of the Main outputs.

Main outputs

All tracks are by default routed to the Main outputs. This can be changed, as all tracks are freely routable to any of the outputs.

Individual outputs

Tracks can be routed to any of the four Individual outputs.

Inputs

Affect external signals with the Machinedrum effects and filters by using the Inputs.

MIDI IN/OUT/THRU ports

The MIDI ports lets the Machinedrum speak to other devices. If you have an SPS-1UW MKII the MIDI ports are also used for sample transfers.

DC in

To start making beats, connect the Machinedrum power supply to the DC in.

Power switch

Use this switch to turn the Machinedrum on or off.

Synthesis

TRX makes it possible to revive those old classic drum computers in an instant. The implemented sound parameters are perfect for beaming the sounds of the past straight into the future.

EFM introduces our "Enhanced Feedback Modulation" algorithms. The generated sounds range from realistic acoustic drums to wild, chaotic effects.

E12 carries the legacy of those gritty, hard to find beatboxes. The carefully processed percussion samples offer a wealth of sound possibilities.

The Sequencer

The secret of the Machinedrum sequencer lies in the way it operates. It offers complete control of the sound engine while at the same time being a creative tool in itself. All synthesis, track effect, routing and master effect parameters can be affected by the sequencer. Note data and parameter changes can of course be recorded in real time.

Parameter locks

A parameter lock is automation data on a per note basis. For example, all kick drum note trigs in a pattern could have different decay lengths or different filter and pitch settings. Almost all Machinedrum parameters can be locked. Take advantage of this powerful feature to make the most out of the Machinedrum.

Track Effects

Each Machinedrum track has its own effect block. It consists of an amplitude modulator, a 1 band EQ a flexible resonant multi mode filter, a sample rate reducer and a distortion effect. All effects can be used simultaneously. Control their parameters with the sequencer or with the LFO's and create ever-evolving rhythmic sounds.
